The Monkey's Paw

The Monkey’s Paw
By: W.W. Jacobs
Summary: On a dark night Sergeant Major Morris came to Mr and Mrs whites house. He got drunk and told them the adventures he had with a thing called the Monkeys paw. He said it gives any three wishes but those wishes might also bring harm. So right before he went home. Mr. White bought the Monkey’s paw from him. So that night he didn’t think it would work so he wished for 200 pounds to pay rent. In the morning is worker Herbert died and his friend gave him the money that he had and it was 200 pounds. Mr White fainted. Then he got what he wanted and he lost a friend. Then he felt really sad and bad for wishing that. He wished that he would come back to life after they buried him in the cemetery. So later that night they heard a hard knock at the door. They got scared and when they saw Herbert’s deformed body and they screamed. They had one more wish so they wished that he would go away. The hard knocking stopped and they checked the door and nothing was there just an empty road.

Characters:
Mr. White
Mrs White
Herbert
Sergeant Major Morris
Man from Mr Whites work

Plot Elements:
Exposition: On a dark stormy night a sergeant appears with a monkey’s paw.
Rising Action: Mr. White buys the paw from him and wishes for 200 ponds for rent.
Climax: He wishes that Herbert would come back to life and he did.
Resolution: This spooked him and he had to use his final wish to get Herbert to leave. They went outside and there was just an empty road.

Analysis: This story was very detailed. This story is very good and filled with action. This book was cool because it reminded me of the well known Indiana Jones. The best part was when he used his last wish because he didn’t seem to know what would happen if he had a lot of wishes.

This story had a very good moral be careful what you wish for. This went perfectly with the story. Mr. White wished for Herbert , a dead man, to come alive. That is a little crazy to me. Having any three wishes is hard to keep you from not using them. Another thing you can learn is don’t buy something from someone if you don’t know it does and what it is.
