Thank You Ma'am

Thank You Ma’am

Summary: A woman named Mrs. Jones was walking home alone in the dark a young boy named Roger ties stealing her pocketbook with a lot of money inside. Instead of taking him to prison she takes him home for somewhere to sleep and to teach him a lesson. She makes him dinner and he sleeps there. Then she makes him clean the house and do chores around her house for a punishment and to make him not try to steal from other people and that he could work off some money. After he finished all of his chores Mrs. Jones was pleased. She gave him ten dollars to get some blue sued shoes because they would kill his feet traveling looking for some way to get food and to get money. He buys the shoes and they say goodbye and they never see each other again.

Plot Elements:
Exposition: When Mrs. Jones walks home alone from work.
Rising Action: When a boy named Roger comes and tries to take her pocketbook while looking for money.
Climax: She took him home and he did thing for her like cleaning her house for not turning him in for stealing.
Resolution: After Mrs. Jones made him clean the house, she talked to him about some of the mistakes she made when she was younger. Then she gives Roger ten dollars to go get shoes because it is going to hurt walking around for a while looking for money and food, then he never see’s her again.

Analysis:
This book had a very good lesson to be learned. That is to never take something that isn’t yours. I can see he was desperate to get money and food because he was getting older and he needed to feed more and he was already really skinny. He was also young to understand how to get money and food the way of not harming anyone.

Mrs. Jones must be a really strong hearted woman because she took a homeless kid from the streets and fed him and gave him ten dollars and didn’t turn him in for trying to steal he pocketbook. These people deserve something good because there are too many homeless people living on the streets and there is not enough people willing to give them a home or something for them to use.

On the Gull's Road

On the Gull’s Road

Summary: Twenty years ago a man was moving from Italy to New York on a ship. He wanted to have a beach because he loved them. On the ship he saw a very beautiful named Mrs. Ebbling and she had a three year old daughter named Carin with her. Her husband working for a shipping company while she was a woman with her child from Scandinavia just moving to a different place. Lars let her take the baby with her on the ship because she needed someone to comfort her with her heart problem. The narrator and Mrs. Ebbling held hands while they were talking. Her husband had a small relationship with her because he was always gone. Then the Narrator explains his feelings for her and she likes him the same way but since she doesn’t have a long time to live she doesn’t know what to do. Then she gave him a letter and said not to open it. Then they went their separate ways. Later on he found that she died of a heart problem. He opened the letter and it said about her feelings for him. He loved how her love will be kept in his heart forever.

Characters:
Alexander Ebbling
Carin
Lars Ebbling
Narrator

Plot Elements:
Exposition: When the Narrator meets Mrs. Ebbling and Carin on the ship.
Rising Action: They have conversations of life and her husband Lars and her daughter Carin.
Climax: At dinner they tell each other how they feel.
Resolution: They go separate ways. He later finds out that she died of a Heart problem. He then reads the letter she gave him explaining her feelings for him and why she couldn’t come with him to New York.

Analysis: I loved this book. It was a mixture of love and how hard it is having a child and only one parent that is always there. I loved this story because she knows that it is hard taking care of the child by her self while she has a heart problem and she doesn’t feel connected to her husband. She needed the narrator because she loved him and because she needed another body to take care of her child.

Having a husband and a boyfriend is bad but I’m sure she did it more for the babies sake. Her baby was three years old and she had a heart problem. In my opinion you need a full mom and dad to do that.

The Monkey's Paw

The Monkey’s Paw
By: W.W. Jacobs
Summary: On a dark night Sergeant Major Morris came to Mr and Mrs whites house. He got drunk and told them the adventures he had with a thing called the Monkeys paw. He said it gives any three wishes but those wishes might also bring harm. So right before he went home. Mr. White bought the Monkey’s paw from him. So that night he didn’t think it would work so he wished for 200 pounds to pay rent. In the morning is worker Herbert died and his friend gave him the money that he had and it was 200 pounds. Mr White fainted. Then he got what he wanted and he lost a friend. Then he felt really sad and bad for wishing that. He wished that he would come back to life after they buried him in the cemetery. So later that night they heard a hard knock at the door. They got scared and when they saw Herbert’s deformed body and they screamed. They had one more wish so they wished that he would go away. The hard knocking stopped and they checked the door and nothing was there just an empty road.

Characters:
Mr. White
Mrs White
Herbert
Sergeant Major Morris
Man from Mr Whites work

Plot Elements:
Exposition: On a dark stormy night a sergeant appears with a monkey’s paw.
Rising Action: Mr. White buys the paw from him and wishes for 200 ponds for rent.
Climax: He wishes that Herbert would come back to life and he did.
Resolution: This spooked him and he had to use his final wish to get Herbert to leave. They went outside and there was just an empty road.

Analysis: This story was very detailed. This story is very good and filled with action. This book was cool because it reminded me of the well known Indiana Jones. The best part was when he used his last wish because he didn’t seem to know what would happen if he had a lot of wishes.

This story had a very good moral be careful what you wish for. This went perfectly with the story. Mr. White wished for Herbert , a dead man, to come alive. That is a little crazy to me. Having any three wishes is hard to keep you from not using them. Another thing you can learn is don’t buy something from someone if you don’t know it does and what it is.

Climax: When they are forced into submission by Johnny and his father and tries to take the kid. They had to pay in order for Johnny and his father to take him.
Resolution: They boy ran out of the kidnappers hands.

Analysis: This book was like a movie in my head. I love action movies and books I don’t really like slow books. This one was fast paced and easy to read. Some books I say when is it over. This one I wish they added more but then again it is a short story. I would really watch it to see if it was what I thought it was going to be like. I also like when books have movies so I can put it my mind and then watch it.

This author is very descriptive he seems to know what he is talking about. I like how he made it drug out with them having the boy with them, and how the story started with him getting kidnapped. He made it very descriptive also because he made four people hold him captive.

I don’t really know why he made this story, but this happens everyday with some crazy person kidnapping someone. It would be really hectic and terrifying if I got kidnapped or I know someone that got kidnapped. It was such a relief when he escaped because going through all of that at a very young age is to hard.

Climax: Victor and Teresa go to French class.
Resolution: His teacher thinks he is older because of all the things he said he did. He didn’t do any of those things all he was trying to do was to impress Teresa.

Analysis: This story was well written. It had very good information to follow. It had very good morals. One of them was don’t lie to people just to impress them. If you be yourself you will still have a shot.

This is the first book I read of Gary Soto and I liked it. It had really good morals. I liked how it was focusing on the story and the morals but it also is like what really happens in middle school all the time.

People try so hard to impress someone they get school and sports and anything else in the way of it. If they say no you have to live with knowing they don’t like you and you will feel very sad and depressed. That is why we should wait till we are older. Like me I need to focus on football and school more than anything in my life right now. Overall this story was very good.

Rikki Tikki Tavi

Rikki Tikki Tavi

Chuchrunda-Wimpy and weak.
Kurait-Very strong and evil.

Rising Action: When Rikki fought Kurait.
Climax: When Rikki has has strength to kill Nagaina and her brood.
Resolution: The snake dies and the jungle rejoices and is happy.

Analysis:
I like this story a lot because it shows a true meaning of family. A mongoose came to a human and needed help. I wouldn't know what to do. I also loved how he trusted the mongoose to protect him and he did. He risked his own life to save his friend that he just met.

This story had a lot of good things. This book is like the kind I like. It talks about family and people coming together as one. Rikki needed a home and Teddy gave one him. Then Teddy could’ve gotten hurt and Rikki saved him. I would like a friend that would do anything for me and I would do anything for them.

Overall this story was great. I watched the movie many times and I love it. The story line is cool because Rikki was basically an Orphan and would have to defend himself from predators if it wasn’t for Teddy. The snakes were very strong and it could only take heart to defeat them. Rikki did not know that he did until he had to fight for the people he loved. Although it was two on one and he was just a Mongoose, he did it! The story was amazing and I wouldn’t mind reading it again.

All summer in a day

All summer in a day

Falling action: The sun comes out and they realize that Margot was right.
Resolution: They went and helped Margot out of the closet and they say sorry.

Analysis:
This story is written by a well-known author named Ray Bradbury. He has written a lot of interesting stories out of the five books I read by him this one is my favorite. I loved how he made it be on another planet. My favorite part was when they let their friend go because I actually thought they were going to keep her in there.

This is my first time reading this story and it was great. This story had a lot of ways you could look at it. You could look at it like her friends don’t really care even if you were wrong and they would do something to you. Another way is that they didn’t like her and wanted to lock her in the closet. The last way is that they were to young and they did not no what they should do because they are young and they didn’t know what other way to punish her. I looked it as the third way.

Just because you think someone is wrong doesn’t mean you can do something to them.  Everyone likes the feeling when they are right because if you are right or they were right it is fine. You or they made one mistake. I couldn’t feel like that if I did something like that to someone I would hate myself and I do whatever the other person wanted.
